(a) reviews of claims for protection against retaliation (PaR) (so-called whistle-blower protection), as either (i) a first reviewer where the complaint is against the executive head of an organisation, or where the internal ethics officer of that organisation is otherwise conflicted, or (ii) second tier reviews, where the ethics officer of any such organisation has determined that there is no prima facie
case of retaliation under the applicable policy,
(b) acting in an interim role, where there is a time gap between incumbent ethics officers, or in other temporary situations, such as leave cover,
(c) general or ad hoc
Ombuds functions,
(d) managing ethics help- or hot-lines, generally, or to deal with back-logs,
(e) providing external reviews of management action, including providing expert Opinions,
(f) conducting and analysing ethics surveys,
(g) providing advice and support to local communities and stakeholders to understand the ethical aspects of UN activities and
(h) subject to available personnel, any other services required.
